THE SABBATH  |  APPOINTED FEAST  |  FIRST FRUITS, THE JOURNEY

The Sabbath
Leviticus 23:3

"There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a day of Sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a Sabbath to the Lord."

So... When do we Honor the Sabbath? Friday at Sundown? Sunday Morning? And how do we honor the Sabbath?

This is a topic that has caused division for a couple of thousand years, and still is the topic of many a heated debate.

With the age of computers, Christians all over the world are googling "when do I celebrate the Sabbath?" There are many views on this topic. Many are very compelling. I am thankful for the Scriptures from Proverbs 2:1-8 that always comes to mind when I read anything from a human point of view....  (and I encourage you to do the same when you read anything I have written) And when you do so, be careful not to take it out of context. Human nature will take a verse out of context to "reinforce  a position"

What I have discerned is that the 1st. Apostolic Council addressed what Gentile Christians should be concerned about when it comes to keeping the "law". (Acts 15:1-32) And Paul addressed the topic specifically to the Church at Colosse in Colossians 2:16-17: 16Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.

The following is how I interpret the instructions found in the Scriptures for the Messianic Gentile "Sabbath": God did it all in six days. He took the seventh day off to rest. We should follow His example. Saturday? Sunday? Monday? Tuesday?, etc. This is a personal choice. If you work from Tuesday - Sunday, Monday is your Sabbath. If you work Monday - Friday, Saturday or Sunday is your Sabbath. Honor the Sabbath out of reverence and gratitude for God's compassion and Christ's Sacrifice. Worship in your home, a sacred assembly. Pray together as a family, sing praises, give thanks, break bread.

I believe the Holy Spirit will convict your spirit if you are in fellowship with Yeshua. If you claim Christ, but get caught in the fast lane of life and take no time for rest (Sabbath), your Salvation is not in question. What is in question is your your faith, your priority's and your responsibility to train your children up in the way they should go.

Appointed Feast

The Lord said to Moses, Speak to the Israelites and say to them: "These are my appointed feast, the appointed feast of the Lord, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies. Leviticus 23:1-2

We are not Messianic Jews, nor are we Israelites. We are Messianic Gentiles. | click here | We we are not under the law of the Feasts. As Messianic Gentiles, we are people who have been grafted in (Romans 11:17-24). We honor the fulfillment of these Feast times because of what our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ has already fulfilled in the first rain, and what is to come in the second rain. See Hosea 6:3

We choose to celebrate these appointed times because God gave them as an appointment with Him. We gather with family and friends. We keep these appointments with God to reflect on His mercy and His provisions passed down through the ages. A time to slow down, rest, worship, celebrate, study His Word, recharge your faith, and pass these things on to your children.

The Major Feast

I suggest that all gatherings within a city or region come together during the Feasts of Passover / Unleavened Bread / First Fruits, Pentecost, and the Day of Atonement.

Special Note: Our "Resurrection Sunday" (Easter) falls on the calendar day of "First Fruits", not the calendar day set by Rome. Please go here for the actual time line.

I have created the following chart. Click on each Feast for more information and dates.
